Based on 130mm chaff and Thermal Anti-missile Launched Offboard Seduction (TALOS) technology, CHIMERA combines centre-burst chaff and multispectral IR submunition to provide sequential radar and IR decoy effects. CHIMERA is suitable for vessels up to the size of light frigates and/or 'larger' low observability ('stealth') ships. It is effective against modern missile seekers and generates 'minimal' foreign object damage when deployed close to its launch platform. In more detail, the device's chaff submunitions make use of centre-burst techniques to restrict burst diameter and is deployed before the IR decoys. Four sequential IR airbursts create an effective decoy in both the long and short IR bands, with incremental firing times of submunition down to 150ms. The device's IR payloads are effective against two-colour seekers. CHIMERA is effective against mixed IR/radar-guided salvo missile attacks, as well as dual-mode seekers.
