PIRATE is a 130mm calibre, mortar-launched, IR round that provides a ship-like signature in both the 3 to 5 and 8 to 14 µm IR wavebands. It combines air and sea surface emitters to generate a high intensity, long duration, large area output close to the surface. PIRATE can be used in both distraction and seduction modes and is effective against a wide range of IR seeker types including imaging devices.
