Description
The Cartridge Countermeasure 55mm No.4 Mk.2 is used for the self defence of military aircraft whilst in flight, against IR heat-seeking missiles. The cartridge is carried in a multiple magazine fitted to the SAAB Avitronics BOZ series dispensers and the Thales Series 400 dispenser.
Each cartridge contains two electrically initiated flare assemblies which are ejected individually from the cartridge. An exceptionally high energy output from the emitting pyrotechnic compositions contained in the flare assembly provides the decoy IR heat source. The cartridge can also be fitted to other compatible dispensers for which its design and performance has been demonstrated to be suitable.
