Description
The 26mm Mk 1 Type 1 Flare is used for the self-defence of fixed and rotary winged military aircraft against IR heat-seeking missiles. An Impulse Cartridge, manufactured by Chemring Countermeasures, is fitted during the manufacture of the flare and provides the means of ejecting the payload. The flare performance characteristics can be "tailored" to suit both fast jet and helicopter protection.
The flare countermeasure 26mm Mk 1 Type 1 is a direct fit and form replacement for the Former Soviet Union (FSU) 26mm type flare. It offers improved performance and reliability, by way of increased peak energy and a STANAG approved 1 Amp, 1 Watt no-fire Impulse Cartridge, in addition to improved shelf life and environmental qualification.
