The Impulse Cartridge is a CCM21 format test cartridge with a pyrotechnic charge but no propellant fill. It is usually mounted by the user into an empty flare/chaff cartridge case and installed into the dispenser. It’s function is to test for satisfactory system operation. On receipt of a valid firing pulse a small flash of flame is emitted as confirmation that the cartridge has fired. Post firing inspection of the cartridge will reveal operation as the foil closure disc will have been perforated.
