The Cart CM 50mm Mk3 Type 2 Flare is used in aircraft countermeasures systems to combat IR heat-seeking missiles. An Impulse Cartridge, manufactured by Chemring Countermeasures is fitted during manufacture of the flare and provides the means of ejecting the payload. It is a one shot expendable countermeasure and is electrically initiated by the aircraft’s countermeasure dispenser system.
It has been specifically designed to fit in the dispensers of FSU aircraft. It is a direct fit, form and function replacement for the Russian PPI-50 flare. The flare offers improved performance, reliability, and safety by way of a safe sequencer to ensure that the flare remains safe until pyrotechnically ejected from its outer case.
