The RF Modular Expendable Block (MEB) Mk4 Type 1 forms part of a defensive aids system to protect a host aircraft from Radar guided missile threats by providing an expendable chaff payload as a suitable alternative target or ‘decoy’ to the tracking radar. The RF MEB Mk4 Type 1 has been developed to provide additional ‘shots’ in the same magazine space giving greater flexibility and an enhanced operational capability.
The MEB Mk4 Type 1 is a glass-filled nylon block which is interfaced to the dispenser firing system through an Interface Plate which routes the firing pulse to the appropriate cell. The chaff payload is pyrotechnically ejected using the CCM11 MK2a Impulse Cartridge. Each MEB Mk4 Type1 contains 8 decoys and 8 off the RF MEB Mk4 Type 1 make up a full dispenser load.
The RF MEB Mk4 Type 1 is used with the Thales dispenser, which employs digital dispensing techniques.
