Innovative EW System provides Baseline Capability for New Thinking
Recent events show dramatically how quickly the security of a lond established government can be threatened and how this can affect the local area. With only one superpower other nations may be requested to provide assistance at short notice. This will ensure that the support is proportionate and has international agreement. New threats can quickly emerge. Traditional procurement methods are of long duration - much, much longer than the change in threat permits.
This change requires an ongoing review of the way ships develop both their offensive and defensive capability. Traditionally ship systems are catergorised either hard of soft kill, and offensive or defensive. All of this is old thinking.
Rarely a new concept or product hits the marketplace which can embrace new thinking. In the paper to be presented such a new product is described. It provides a major improvement in shipborne EW defense capability, can also address both anti surface (eg piracy) and anti-torpedo/submarine threats, AND has the potential for a longer range offensive capability.
