Chemring Countermeasures Ltd based at the High Post Site near Salisbury, whose origins can be traced back to the 1850's, is the base of the UK countermeasures operations of Chemring Group PLC.

The combined experience and expertise of both businesses Chemring Ltd and Pains Wessex Ltd the two companies that joined to make Chemring Countermeasures Ltd means today Chemring Countermeasures Ltd is a world leader in providing expendable IR and RF decoys to protect military aircraft and ships from being identified by a variety of sensors, threats and missiles. 

Over many years Chemring Countermeasures has built up a comprehensive set of Environmental test and evaluation facilities for hazardous/explosive test items that cover Climatic testing, Dynamic testing, Shock/Bump, Wheeled vehicle Transportation Bounce Test and Free fall Impact Drop Test.

Chemring Countermeasures is the UK MoD’s design authority for all air IR decoys and chaff products, and the Eurofighter design authority for the Typhoon chaff and flare decoys. 

Naval
Chemring Countermeasures latest naval innovations encompass a wide range of payloads and rounds including extended frequency range chaff and multi-payloads which can include obscurants.  The rounds also have system controlled variable height and range payload deployment, that benefit from improved algorithms.  These new capabilities, are further optimised when deployed from CENTURION®, Chemring Countermeasures fully trainable 130mm launcher compatible with all 130mm countermeasures, including ASW variants, offering the ultimate passive solutions to counter current, emerging and future missile threats.

The Future: As each new threat emerges, Chemring uses its CounterSim software capabilities to identify the key features required for a new countermeasure. These decoys are designed, developed and tested before entering service to protect aircraft and ships.
