Company History

Chemring Countermeasures Ltd based at the High Post Site near Salisbury, whose origins can be traced back to the 1850's, is the base of the UK countermeasures operations of Chemring Group PLC.

The company combines the unique design, development and manufacturing experience in radar-reflective and screening materials and RF countermeasure payloads originally developed by Chemring Ltd with the Infra-Red/Electro Optical (IR/EO) countermeasures technology of Pains Wessex Ltd (the name the company was previously known by).

The combined experience and expertise of both businesses means today Chemring Countermeasures Ltd is a world leader in providing expendable IR and RF decoys to protect military aircraft, ships and increasingly land vehicles from being acquired by a variety of sensors, threats and missiles. Other products in the company’s portfolio include a range of the highest quality marine safety equipment.

History of Chemring Countermeasures.

Chemring Countermeasures has become a leading specialist company in off-board countermeasures operating an extensive Technology Centre and manufacturing facility introducing new programmes, products and services.

Chemring Countermeasures is the UK MoD’s design authority for all air IR decoys and chaff products, and the Eurofighter design authority for the Typhoon chaff and flare decoys.

In the naval area Chemring Countermeasures is a Seagnat Approved supplier and has designed and developed several new 130mm decoys including the Royal Navy TALOS ‘Walk Off’ round, the Royal Danish Navy CHIMERA ‘Dual Mode RF/IR’ round, the PW216 Distraction round and the PIRATE advanced IR round both now in service with several NATO and Non-NATO customers.

Chemring Countermeasures operates a focused customer support policy and aims to provide a fully integrated logistic service ranging from product design, development, platform optimisation, manufacturing, training (including CBT), to storage and disposal.
